Facilities of International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia
Ancient Olympia is a symbol of contemporary athletics and it has its roots in the history of the Olympic Games. It used to host the ancient Olympic Games from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD every 4 years. The International Olympic Academy took the decision to build a centre in Olympia for culture and education with international reach in order to promote the Olympic principles and to delve into the basic questions of humanism and politics.
The premises of the International Olympic Academy occupy an area of 225 acres (90 hectars). On the grounds of the IOA you will find the Forest of Coubertin, which features a monument for Pierre de Coubertin.
The IOA houses a conference centre (1800 m2) on three levels, which contains:
· The modern and fully equipped auditorium “Dimitrios Vikelas” with a seating capacity of 450.
· Two classes for lectures with 50 seats each.
· Two classes for lectures with a capacity of 20 seats.
· A library with a separate study area and a selection of 16.000 books.
· A computer lab.
· The Auditorium “Otto Simitsek” with a seating capacity of 250.
· A building for administrative support.
Accommodation:
The IOA is able to sleep 280 guests in:
· 22 single rooms
· 76 double rooms
· 15 bungalows for 8 each
The buildings are fully covered by wifi.
Sports facilities:
· 1 football field
· 2 basketball courts
· 2 volleyball courts
· 2 tennis courts
· 1 swimming pool
